Geotechnical surveys of wastewater treatment plants

Wastewater treatment plant "Kubratovo" - Sofia

This plant cleans domestic and industrial waste water, which enters the sewage network of Sofia. It was put into operation in 1984 and is one of the largest in the Balkans. It is located in the lowest northern part of Sofia and has a total area of 60 hectares. The capacity of the station is 500,000 m3 of wastewater per day. In connection with the construction of new settling tanks, due to the high levels of groundwater in the area, it was necessary to design a water lowering system.

Design and construction of a water lowering system for Kubratovo WWTP

The purpose of the task was to determine the number, location and depth of drilling wells, as well as their mode of operation, so as to lower the water level at a depth from 3.00 to 6.00 m beneath the ground. In this way, it was possible for the construction excavations to remain dry during the construction of the new sedimentation tanks.

Geotechnical survey of WWTP - Dupnitsa

Engineering geological and hydrogeological survey for the reconstruction, modernization and expansion of the treatment plant. The purpose of the studies was to clarify the conditions for the foundation of the new facilities.

Ground base inspection of Mezdra WWTP

The site of the treatment plant is situated in a river terrace, built of water-saturated large gravels and boulders, which form a highly abundant unconfined aquifer. We carried out a geological survey, which determined the thickness of the river deposits and the level of groundwater. The designers complied with our recommendations for drainage and the project was realized without any difficulties with the help of a water lowering system of wells.
